"Friedrich," which changed everything

The Messerschmitt Bf 109 was the main fighter of the German Luftwaffe during World War II and one of the most recognizable aircraft designs in history. The Bf 109F "Friedrich" version, introduced into production at the turn of 1940/1941, represented a true breakthrough in the development of this aircraft.

Although it used the same DB 601E engine as the earlier E version, the airframe was thoroughly redesigned. The rounded engine cowling, new propeller spinner and modified, rounded wingtips significantly improved aerodynamics. The result? A maximum speed of up to 635 km/h at an altitude of 6000 m and excellent handling characteristics. The armament, consisting of two MG 17 machine guns and a 20 mm MG 151 cannon, made the "Friedrich" a formidable opponent in aerial dogfights.
